The Steam community has moved beyond the days of using only a keyboard and mouse for gaming. Now, many PC gamers are turning to game controllers. And this is where the Xbox controller clearly surpasses the PlayStation controller. So why do they prefer Xbox? Here’s the reason…
Steam players prefer Xbox controllers over PlayStation controllers
According to a survey among Steam users, 59% of those who use game controllers prefer Xbox controllers. In contrast, only 26% use PlayStation controllers. These results come despite the superior features of the PS5’s DualSense controller.
Even though the DualSense offers advanced features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, the lack of support for these features on the PC platform may be driving users toward Xbox controllers. Overall, the number of players using gamepads on Steam is increasing.
In 2018, only 5% of daily users played games with a gamepad, but this year, that number has risen to 15%. Valve has not overlooked this development and has made several updates in recent months to improve gamepad support.
Big Picture mode navigation has been enhanced, virtual menu support has been added to the desktop client, and the aiming feature with gyroscope gamepads has been optimized. With these new features, Steam users can expect a better gaming experience with gamepad support. Additionally, Valve’s improvements in this area may further increase the use of gamepads among players.
